  1. The wood used for firewood results from woodland management or tree surgery.  It is hoped that more woodlands will come into management with the recent increase in woodburning stoves that have been installed as the demand for firewood is now higher and the price that can be obtained have increased to a point that it is becoming viable for woodland owners to consider managing their woodland to improve the timber value of their woodlands by thinning out some of the trees, creating more space and light for the better trees to grow and for the ground flora, shrubs and associated fauna to increase in species and populations.  These first thinnings of undermanaged woodlands will have little value for anything other than firewood but in the future they may be able to produce timber for other uses as well.
